A cheaper V8, and a COVID-hit year
The new LT1 trim puts the SS's V8 in a cheaper body, just as the pandemic cuts sales roughly in half.
A new LT1 trim put the SS's 455 hp V8 into the lower-priced LT body, and Chevrolet announced it at $34,995 including destination. It was marked by a domed hood, LT1 fender badges and 20-inch wheels. The SS got a new nose after the much-criticized 2019 design, and the V6 could now be ordered with the ten-speed automatic.
Then the pandemic cut first-half 2020 sales roughly in half, and US sales for the year were 29,775.

The fabric names and model groupings follow Chevrolet's 2020 US brochure model pages; upholstery ordering codes remain unknown. LT1's cloth choices stay separate from the 2LT/3LT and 2SS leather-appointed choices. Accent interiors require their named packages on 2LT, 3LT and 2SS. The Adrenaline Red Interior Accent Trim Package is not available with Crush, Rally Green Metallic, Riverside Blue Metallic or Shock. The non-Red RECARO entry and ZL1's Red-accent seating are separate. These are brochure model/package statements, not a complete special-edition or body/paint compatibility matrix.

A V8 Camaro got cheaper just as sales fell to their lowest point since the fourth generation ended.
Chevrolet's brochure promised that for 2020 "a stealthy LT1 debuts and SS gets a new concept-inspired appearance." The LT1 was sold as the most affordable way into a V8 Camaro. It used the SS's 455-hp 6.2-liter V8 with a six-speed manual or the ten-speed automatic. It rode on all-season tires and did without the SS's Brembo brakes and summer tires. By Chevrolet's figures the LT1 coupe reached 60 mph in 4.3 seconds with the manual and 4.2 with the automatic, and ran the quarter mile in 12.5 seconds. A mechanical limited-slip differential was standard on the LS, LT, LT1 and SS.
The SS kept its 455-hp V8, a six-speed with Active Rev Matching, Brembo brakes and summer tires, and could be ordered with Magnetic Ride Control.
Chevrolet published full performance figures for every version. The 275-hp 2.0-liter turbo four reached 60 mph in 5.4 seconds and ran the quarter mile in 14.0 at 100 mph. The 335-hp V6 did 5.2 seconds with the manual. The SS did 4.0 seconds with the automatic and 12.3 seconds in the quarter mile, pulled 0.97 g and topped out at 180 mph. The 650-hp ZL1 coupe did 3.5 seconds and 11.4 seconds at 127 mph, pulled 1.02 g and reached 198 mph. The ZL1 1LE pulled 1.10 g.
Every engine had its own 1LE. The Turbo 1LE brought FE3 suspension parts, heavy-duty cooling, four-piston Brembo front calipers and black 20-inch wheels. The V6 1LE added a dual-mode exhaust. The SS 1LE used the FE4 chassis with Magnetic Ride Control, six-piston Brembos and Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar tires. The ZL1 1LE had adjustable Multimatic DSSV dampers, a fixed carbon-fiber wing and dive planes.
The Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system brought an available eight-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth streaming for two phones. The 3LT added forward collision alert, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, rear park assist and rear cross traffic alert. The convertible's top could be lowered with the key fob or one button while driving at up to 30 mph. The paint chart included Rally Green Metallic, Riverside Blue Metallic, Shock and Crush, and a Shock and Steel Special Edition was offered on the 2LT, 3LT and 2SS. Every Camaro was assembled at Lansing Grand River in Michigan from U.S. and globally sourced parts.
