The 1998 refresh reshaped the nose (new front sheet metal, composite headlamps) but the headline was the powertrain: the all-aluminum Gen III LS1, fresh from the C5 Corvette, replaced the cast-iron LT1. Officially 305 hp and widely regarded as underrated, it's the reason late fourth-gen cars remain popular tuner platforms.
