LS1 and the new nose
The all-aluminum LS1 replaces the LT1 — the dividing line of the fourth generation.
The 1998 refresh reshaped the nose (new front sheet metal, composite headlamps) but the headline was the powertrain: the all-aluminum Gen III LS1, fresh from the C5 Corvette, replaced the cast-iron LT1. Officially 305 hp and widely regarded as underrated, it's the reason late fourth-gen cars remain popular tuner platforms.
