1990 Camaro

The short year, and the last IROC-Z

A deliberately truncated model year — and the final IROC-Z before the name is retired.

1990 was a deliberately short model year: the last 1990 Camaro was built December 31, 1989, and the facelifted 1991 car began production early (February 1990) instead of at the normal fall changeover — truncating 1990 to just 35,048 units, not a mid-year stoppage.

It was also the last IROC-Z year. GM did not renew the International Race of Champions licensing agreement — reportedly tied to the series moving off Camaro (to the Dodge Daytona) after the 1990 season — and 1991 brought back the plain “Z28” name with a fresh ground-effects facelift.
