Goodbye, with a nod to “Panther”

Production ends, and the Collector's Edition borrows the car's own 1966 code name.

The Camaro's last model year was announced more than a year in advance and closed with a Collector's Edition named for the car's own 1966 development code name, "Panther."

The Collector's Edition was offered on the LT with the RS package, the LT1 and the SS, and on 350 ZL1s: 300 for the United States, 30 for Canada and 20 for Mexico. The last convertible was built on November 22, 2023. The final Camaro, a Summit White ZL1 1LE coupe with a six-speed manual, left the Lansing Grand River line on December 14, 2023.

A successor has been reported but never announced. Through 2026 several outlets reported that GM approved a rear-drive, internal-combustion replacement for the 2029 model year, but General Motors has made no public statement. See what is and is not known.

Did you know

  • Chevrolet built the last Camaros about a month ahead of the schedule it announced in March 2023, which had the final cars leaving the plant in January 2024.
  • Even as production ended, GM said the Camaro name would keep racing: its retirement release listed NASCAR, IMSA, SRO, NHRA and the Supercars Championship, and Jim Campbell said Chevrolet's plan was to "continue to compete and win at the highest levels of auto racing."
  • The Collector's Edition package was priced by trim: $4,995 on the 1LT (which also needed the $1,950 RS package), $5,495 on the LT1 (plus a $1,495 RS package), $5,995 on the 1SS and $14,995 on the ZL1. With destination, that made $39,440, $47,385, $49,890 and $88,690; the ZL1 figure leaves out its gas-guzzler tax.
  • William Byron won the Daytona 500 on February 19, 2024 in Hendrick's No. 24 Axalta Camaro ZL1 after Ross Chastain and Austin Cindric crashed on the final lap. It was Chevrolet's 26th Daytona 500 win and its second in a row, and Hendrick's ninth, 40 years after the team's first start; Chevrolet went on to take the year's manufacturers' title with 15 wins.
  • GM's own paperwork spelled out the Camaro's end: WARN notices filed in December 2023 listed 369 layoffs at Lansing Grand River Assembly and Stamping, running from January 1 through March 25, 2024, because Camaro production was ending. The plant kept building the Cadillac CT4 and CT5.
  • Buyers wanting a last Camaro had a shrinking window. Days after production ended, dealers held about 35 days' supply, below the 60-day industry target; by October 2024 Chevrolet's locator showed only 90 new Camaros left nationwide, from a $37,935 1LT convertible to a $94,320 ZL1 coupe.
  • The 350 Collector's Edition ZL1s traded well above their $88,690 starting price. No. 22 of 350 sold for $236,500 at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in fall 2024; the first-built No. 001, with 85 miles, crossed the Palm Beach block in April 2025; and in October 2025 a Texas dealer listed No. 102 at a $20,000 markup over its $95,720 sticker.

The 2024 table lists three engines: the 3.6 L V6 (LGX), the 6.2 L V8 (LT1) and the 6.2 L supercharged V8 (LT4). The highest power rating shown is 650 hp, for the 6.2 L supercharged V8 (LT4).

Interior trim

This table has nine interior trims for 2024, each with its trim code.

These seat/material/code combinations follow the US order guide published June 9, 2023, Color and Trim page 106. H1T and H0Y each appear with both A50 sport front buckets and AQJ RECARO performance front buckets; the interior code alone does not identify the material. The guide's 1LZ equipment group denotes LT1. BRJ/BRD package restrictions and model groups remain explicit; no physical-tag or older-year code crosswalk is inferred. Adrenaline Red is not available with Vivid Orange Metallic, Nitro Yellow Metallic, Riptide Blue Metallic or Riverside Blue Metallic. Later ordering changes and complete Collector Edition combinations are not inferred from this dated chart.

Why it matters

The second "final year" in Camaro history came with an announced send-off. Production ended in December 2023; calendar-year 2024 deliveries continued afterward.

The "Panther" Callback

The code name's story, including Pete Estes' 1966 "Society for the Elimination of Panthers from the Automotive World" joke at the car's naming press conference, is told in the first generation and the people behind the car. Chevrolet also chose the name "Collector's Edition" over a generic "Last Call," the label rival Dodge used for its own Challenger and Charger send-off at the time.

What comes next

Unlike 2002, GM did not announce a replacement or revival plan alongside the 2024 discontinuation. Chevrolet global VP Scott Bell's line, "this is not the end of Camaro's story," was the only on-record GM statement leaving the door open, and it stopped well short of confirming anything.

As of September 2026, the reports place the rumored 2029 car at Lansing Grand River again. The widely repeated claim that it will have four doors rests entirely on unnamed sources.

The last lineup

Chevrolet began taking orders for the final Camaros on June 15, 2023. The range was down to LT, LT1, SS and ZL1, each as a coupe or convertible, and the turbocharged four was gone. That left the 3.6-liter V6, the 455-hp LT1 V8 and the 650-hp supercharged LT4. The 1LE remained available on the SS and ZL1. Riptide Blue and Nitro Yellow Metallic were the last two new colors. An LT coupe started at $32,495 and an LT convertible at $38,495.

The Collector's Edition in detail

Chevrolet Performance design director Rich Scheer said the team found it "fitting for this Collector's Edition Camaro to officially recognize the significance of the original code name." On the LT with the RS package, the LT1 and the SS it meant Panther Black Metallic Tintcoat paint, satin black stripes, 20-inch satin black or polished forged wheels, the 1LE front splitter and, on coupes, the ZL1 rear spoiler. The 350 ZL1 Collector's Editions were painted Panther Black Matte, the first matte paint Chevrolet had offered on a Camaro from the factory. They added the ZL1 1LE's splitter and, on coupes, its wing, plus red calipers, black lug nuts and a serialized steering-wheel badge giving each car's place in the build sequence.

Every Collector's Edition carried fender script with a panther worked into the "R," a panther on the steering-wheel badge, laser-etched floor-mat logos and a welcome kit with two commemorative posters. ZL1 owners also received a Shinola watch engraved with the same serial number as their car.

The Garage 56 Edition

The final year also brought a road car tied to the Le Mans entry. Announced at Le Mans in June 2023, the ZL1 Garage 56 Edition was limited to 56 cars. It was painted Riptide Blue with a broad white stripe edged in thin gold lines from hood to deck lid, colors taken from the race car, and carried NASCAR's 75th-anniversary logo on the hood. GM's senior manager of motorsport design, Marc Mainville, said the aim was to capture "the feeling of the race car" without making the car look out of place on the street.
