2018 Camaro

ZL1 1LE raises the track ceiling

ZL1 1LE brings Multimatic dampers, extreme aero, and 650 horsepower; the production-car facelift comes in 2019.

The actual 2018 model-year headline is ZL1 1LE, combining the 650-hp ZL1 with Multimatic DSSV hardware, adjustable track setup, forged 19-inch wheels/Goodyear SuperCar 3R tires, dive planes, splitter, and carbon-fiber wing. Chevrolet said it was three seconds quicker than standard ZL1 at its Milford course.

The Hot Wheels package marked 50 years since the original 1968 Custom Camaro toy.

The powertrain and identification notes below preserve configuration and model-year boundaries rather than treating every 2018 Camaro alike. Ratings use the measurement convention of their period, and visual cues are only a starting point: the VIN, factory labels, drivetrain identifiers, and surviving documentation should agree.

  • Chevrolet lists a 275-hp/295-lb-ft turbo four; 335-hp/284-lb-ft V6; 455-hp/455-lb-ft SS V8; and 650-hp/650-lb-ft ZL1/ZL1 1LE.

Identification

  • ZL1 1LE has a satin-black hood, front dive planes/splitter, exposed carbon wing, and 19-inch low-gloss black wheels. The Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition uses Crush Orange, unique wheels/interior/badges, and orange-track graphics. VIN position 10 is J.

Open questions

Still unresolved:
  • The sixth-generation styling refresh is 2019, not 2018. The eCOPO unveiled in calendar 2018 used a 2019 COPO chassis and belongs in a concept/event note, not as a 2018 road-car change.
