ZL1 arrives — and out-laps the Corvette
The 650 hp supercharged ZL1 lands, and the ZL1 1LE posts GM's fastest-ever official production lap at the Nürburgring.
2017 is the sixth generation's performance high-water mark. The ZL1 arrived with the supercharged 6.2 L LT4 (650 hp / 650 lb-ft) — the same engine as the C7 Corvette Z06 — and the ZL1 1LE track package (Multimatic dampers, big aero, wider tires) posted a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap that multiple outlets called the fastest GM had ever officially recorded from a production car, beating the 2012 Corvette ZR1's mark.
Sources disagree on the exact time — some report 7:16.04, others 7:29.60, likely two runs conflated across retellings. 2017 was also the nameplate's 50th anniversary, marked with a 50th Anniversary appearance package.
