A Heritage Edition, the biggest 1LE year, and the last Camaro from Van Nuys.
The third generation's last year. A 25th Anniversary Heritage Edition added double hood and decklid stripes that nodded to the 1969 cars. The 1LE track package had its biggest year with 705 cars, more than the previous four years combined, though one account counts the 589 B4C police cars, which used the same hardware, inside that figure.
RS and Z28 continued with the 3.1 V6 and the 5.0 and 5.7 TPI V8s. Production was 70,007, the last Camaros built at Van Nuys, California.

These eleven material/color codes follow the 1992 Chevrolet order guide revised September 13, 1991, printed pp. 2/4/6/8. All four RS/Z28 coupe/convertible charts list four cloth, four custom cloth and three custom leather choices. Only custom-material rows carry the split-folding rear-seat-back footnote; the Black leather cell is blank. The guide calls the brown interior Beige. Convertible tops are Beige with Beige interiors and Black with Black, Gray or Red interiors. The two green paints appear in the RS charts, not the Z28 charts. Standard paint/interior combinations differ from Z03 Heritage combinations: Purple Haze Heritage lists Black or Gray, and RS Polo II Green Heritage lists Beige only. Heritage stripe and wheel colors remain package-specific. Handwritten annotations in the archive are not treated as factory ordering text. These dated charts do not establish a physical-tag/VIN crosswalk, individual-car originality, a full later-production compatibility matrix or a rule for a neighboring model year.

The Camaro's 25th year closed its first era: the third generation ended, and so did production at Van Nuys, one of its two home plants.
The last third-generation Camaro, a bright red special-order Z28 coupe, left Van Nuys on August 27, 1992; production was scheduled to end at 2:42 p.m. Each worker signed it on unseen surfaces, mostly the floorboards under the carpet, and Camaro collector Leonard Stevenson of Des Moines, Iowa, bought it.
The fourth generation moved all Camaro and Firebird production to Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec (see the 1993 model year). Van Nuys and Norwood, Ohio, which had closed earlier, in 1987, were the nameplate's two home plants for its first quarter-century. The third generation and the 1991 model year cover the B4C and 1LE cars that went out with it.
Chevrolet marked the Camaro's 25th year with a 25th Anniversary badge on the instrument panel of every 1992 car and an optional Heritage Appearance Package. The package added hood and deck stripes that recalled the first-generation cars, a body-color grille, blacked-out headlamp pockets and special badging. It was offered on every model, in Arctic White, Bright Red or Black.
Four new colors arrived for the final year: Purple Haze Metallic, Dark Green-Gray Metallic, Polo Green II Metallic and Medium Quasar Blue Metallic. There was also a new beige interior and a beige convertible top. Convertibles had already gained rear three-point belts, an assist mechanism that made the top easier to raise and lower, color-keyed rear quarter trim with courtesy lamps and more usable trunk space.
The range was unchanged in outline. The RS Coupe and RS Convertible had the 3.1-liter V6 with a five-speed or optional automatic, with the throttle-body 305 optional, 15-inch cast-aluminum wheels and lower-body ground effects. The September 1991 MVMA sheet lists the V6 at 140 hp at 4,400 rpm and 180 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm. Its single-exhaust Tuned Port 305 is listed at 205 hp at 4,200 rpm and 285 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm with either the M39 manual or MD8 automatic. The Z28 had that Tuned Port 305, a domed hood, an aero rear wing, 16-inch wheels, fast-ratio steering and a ride-and-handling suspension, and the coupe could take the 5.7-liter Tuned Port 350. Every model had a driver's air bag and PASS-Key. Including destination, the RS Coupe listed at $12,565, the RS Convertible at $18,545, the Z28 Coupe at $16,545 and the Z28 Convertible at $21,990.
