The Berlinetta's spaceship dashboard
The Berlinetta gets its digital “Graphic Control Center,” and the third generation has its best sales year.
The Berlinetta got its "Graphic Control Center," the most gadget-laden interior Chevrolet had put in a Camaro. The V6 became the entry engine on Berlinetta, leaving the Iron Duke four to the Sport Coupe, and the 5.0-liter V8s, including a high-output Z28 tune, topped the range.
Of the year's cars, 127,292 were Sport Coupes, 33,400 Berlinettas and 100,899 Z28s. Chevrolet's option tallies survive for the year and appear in the options table below.

Prices and quantities below follow the reference-book reprint in the GM kit. It describes introductory retail prices, including delivery and handling but excluding transportation and state/local taxes. Some prices changed during the model year; these are not a single schedule valid throughout 1984.

This table has 30 interior trims for 1984, each with its trim code.
Two source systems are kept separate. The five grouped numeric/suffix code rows reproduce the secondary reference-book interior list on printed p. 85 (GM kit PDF p. 24); the archive location does not make that book factory-authored. The 25 separate four-character codes follow Chevrolet dealer order-guide charts revised March 2, 1984, printed pp. 2/4/6 (PDF pp. 8/10/12). Camaro and Z28 list five vinyl and five cloth choices; all three models list four custom-vinyl and five custom-cloth choices. Camel has no custom-vinyl cell. Z28 alone lists the six sport/custom-sport L/S Conteur combinations, including Charcoal with red-orange trim as CLL9 and FLL9. Factory names Dark Blue, Dark Brown and Sand Gray are retained alongside the book's Blue, Brown and Sandstone Gray wording without a code crosswalk. The Camaro header permits additional combinations with D60 verification of customer desire, while the Z28 and Berlinetta headers prohibit non-recommended D60 combinations. Paint, stripe, lower-accent and wheel matrices remain model-specific and are not fully reproduced here. Neither system proves a physical stamping, VIN crosswalk, individual originality, a later revision or a neighboring-year application.

What to check on a 1984 Camaro: VIN and berlinetta.

Decode a specific car with the VIN decoder, the cowl tag decoder and the engine and drivetrain stamp decoder.
Third-generation sales peaked, and Cross-Fire Injection made its exit.
Chevrolet put its new ideas into the Berlinetta. Its electronic instrument cluster had a digital speedometer and odometer and a vertical bar-graph tachometer, framed by push-button control pods on either side that could be moved to suit the driver. The radio was a remote-head unit whose controls sat in a swiveling pod on the console, and a roof console with a map light and storage pouch was standard. Adjustable front head restraints and new taillamp moldings finished the changes. An electronically controlled air conditioner was offered on the Berlinetta alone.
All this made the Berlinetta the most expensive Camaro. By July 1984 it listed at $10,885, against $10,720 for the Z28 and $8,097 for the four-cylinder Sport Coupe.
Every manual transmission now used a hydraulic clutch. Pulse windshield wipers were new. The Sport Coupe and Berlinetta moved to GM's "fourth-generation" steel-belted radials, while the Z28 kept its Goodyear Eagle GTs. The Sport Coupe and Z28 kept a speedometer with two pointers that showed miles and kilometers per hour at once, for the last time. GM's wind tunnel measured a 0.339 drag coefficient for the 1984 Z28.
The engine list ran from the fuel-injected 2.5-liter four in the Sport Coupe, through the 107-hp 2.8-liter V6 standard in the Berlinetta ($250 on a Sport Coupe), to the 150-hp four-barrel 305. That V8 was standard in the Z28 and cost $550 on a Sport Coupe or $375 on a Berlinetta. The 190-hp 5.0-liter H.O. was a $530 Z28 option. The best stereo for the Sport Coupe and Z28 cost $605, with a cassette, a five-band equalizer, noise reduction and a power booster.
Road & Track named the 1984 Camaro one of the twelve best cars in the world, taking its Best Sports GT class for cars from $11,000 to $14,000 alongside the Pontiac Trans Am. Car and Driver picked the Z28 as the best-handling car built in the United States. It noted that the Corvette pulled more on the skidpad but judged the Z28 better overall.
Production reached 261,591: 10,687 with the four, 98,471 with the V6 and 152,433 with a V8. That was the best year the third generation would have, and the best any Camaro would see again. The Camaro White Book counts 52,457 of the year's 100,899 Z28s with the 190-hp L69. Its option table is printed one row out of step, and the corrected reading is confirmed by the totals: the V6 row then matches the 98,471 V6 cars, and the two V8 rows add up exactly to the 152,433 V8s.
