Al Oppenheiser
Modern Camaro chief engineer — “Mr. Camaro”
Camaro chief engineer from roughly 2007 to 2018, Oppenheiser oversaw the fifth-generation revival and the sixth-generation Alpha car, including the ZL1, 1LE and Z/28 programs. Camaro led its segment in sales every year from 2010 through 2014 during his tenure.
He was reassigned in December 2018 to lead GM's EV engineering group, and retired from GM in April 2026 after 42 years.
